Rottnest Island’s most famous residents are undoubtedly its quokkas, hailed as the world’s happiest animal, but there is an abundance of wildlife to observe.
The island coastal areas and wetlands are all full of spectacular birdlife where you can hear the sound of the frogs calling.
Take a stroll on the West End Boardwalk for seasonal whale and bird watching, get up close to a fur seal colony from the Cathedral Rocks viewing platform, or take one of the Wadjemup Bidi Walk Trails around the salt lakes to the West End beaches or to the Bickley Battery.
Coastal rugged landscapes become the backdrop to your forever memories, and you can explore them by endless cycle paths. With virtually no cars, riding is one of the best ways to get around.

Another option is to jump on the hop-on/hop-off bus or join one of the bus tours to explore the island from a different perspective.
The cooler months are the ideal time to explore the island by foot. The landscape is threaded with five unique hiking trails, connecting to form the 45km iconic Wadjemup Bidi trail. Hiking from one end of the island to the other past rugged coastline, inland lakes and military history, this is a trip worth wandering. Guided hiking tours are also a great way to learn more about the island.
Being a few degrees warmer than Perth during winter, Rottnest is the perfect place to re-energise and connect to all that surrounds you.
Spend the cool days exploring the island landscape or treat yourself to an indulgent spa treatment. Then simply while away the nights snuggled up listening to the ocean with a glass of wine in hand.
